Simulation of neutron irradiation-induced recrystallization in tungsten

Tungsten is the candidate divertor target material in future fusion reactors. The tungsten expected to serve a severe environment of high temperature and high-energy neutron irradiation. This can lead irradiation-induced recrystallization tungsten, thereby increasing possibility intergranular brittle failure compromising safe operation divertor. Thus, clarifying mechanism crucial. However, current model, which only considers irradiation-enhanced effect on driving force, underestimates irradiation when compared with results observed recent high-temperature experiments HFIR reactor. It indicates that other effects are influencing process. study introduced grain boundary migration factor (<i>R</i>) into established kinetic model based assumption velocity proportional self-diffusion coefficient. simulation showed after considering both force effect, calculated half-recrystallization time (<i>t<sub>X</sub></i>=0.5) at 850℃ from matched one estimated experiment result important factors affecting recrystallization. In addition, difference between irradiated unirradiated <i>t<sub>X</sub></i><sub>=0.5</sub> decreases temperature. phenomenon due fact as increases, contribution defects for defect recombination. Moreover, thermal activation diffusion coefficient increase more significant than These findings suggest eventually dominates process over increases.

Neutron irradiation of SmFeAsO1−xFx
